If I already have a Raspberry Pi at home, can I use it?
To ensure guaranteed operation and minimal cost, we've specified the use of a Raspberry Pi 4B with 4 GB RAM. If you have a different model (e.g., a Pi 4B 8 GB), it's likely to work similarly. You can try using it, however, we can't guarantee optimal performance compared to the intended uses. The Raspberry Pi 5, with its different architecture, hasn't been tested yet. We'll update the specifications as soon as we've conducted conclusive tests.
I have several Raspberry Pi cameras at home, can I use any camera of equivalent size?
No, the camera we've selected meets specific qualitative criteria to provide a scientifically and visually acceptable result. It's not impossible that in the future, other cameras may be added to the list of compatible components.
Can I reuse the optical parts from my Sol'Ex to make a Sunscan?
No, the Sunscan has been developed independently with a new optical design and therefore new specific optics.
I don't have a 3D printer, what can I do?
No worries! We've partnered with companies that offer commercial 3D printing of the kit. These companies adhere to our specifications and ensure production quality that allows for building a quality Sunscan. You can find more information on the dedicated page of our website.
Is it possible to use the Sunscan without a smartphone?
No, it is not possible to use the Sunscan without a smartphone or tablet. The Sunscan is designed as an all-in-one, autonomous, and portable device. Its operation is specifically intended to be used with a mobile device (smartphone or tablet) as the control interface. This design choice ensures a user-friendly experience and maintains the portability and independence of the system. The mobile app is an integral part of the Sunscan's functionality, providing the necessary controls and data visualization features for optimal use of the SpectroHeliograph.
Where can I find help if I encounter problems during the construction or use of my Sunscan?
